We, as ELL teachers, believe that every student has the right to become fluent and comfortable with the English language. The student has the right to be confident to handle new situations in the language at a level that is comparable to a native English speaker. The student also has the right to quality instruction that is provided by professionals who strive to use the best techniques available to foreign language teachers.

As teachers, it is our responsibility to put the English language into a context for language learning that will inspire the students confidence and proficiency in the language. We must provide the tools that will generalize learning and the skills that are needed for success outside of the language classroom. We also have the duty to set achievable and realistic goals that can be attained by all learners.

As ELL teachers, we will use methods that motivate students while providing language instruction for academic purposes. We will encourage participation from all students while dispelling the negative emotions from the classroom and promoting a positive atmosphere that is conducive to language learning. The method of language instruction is similar to that of a foreign language teacher. We are not remedial teachers nor are we language arts teachers. Our method of teaching encourages the students to break down the English language into the skills needed for mastery and continued success outside of the language classroom.

The students will receive quality instruction from trained professionals. We will continually work to improve our teaching while becoming students ourselves. We will maintain an awareness of current practices and research in the field of language learning. In our classrooms, there will be a spirit of compassion and mercy. In addition, students will feel safe and comfortable to learn the English language. Our instruction will be such that our students will be motivated to learn. We will keep sight of the goals of each student while becoming partners with them in the learning process.
